Prof. Sougata Ray, senior politician and ex-professor of science is currently serving his 4th term as a member of the parliament of India was born in 1947. He has been active in the politics of the state since 8 decades of the 21st century. He served 5 terms as a member of the State Assembly of West Bengal and served his 4th term as a member of the lower house of the parliament. Sougata Ray served as the Union Minister of States for Petroleum from 1979-80. He again joined the ministry of PM Manmohan Singh-led Congress government.
