Narain Dass Gupta, Chartered Accountant by profession and second-time serving member of the upper house of parliament of India was born in 1945 in Sonipat Haryana. He completed his schooling in his hometown and moved to Delhi for higher education he was admitted to Sri Ram College of Commerce and completed his commerce graduation with awards in the college and was also praised by PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the alumni ceremony.

N.D. Gupta was the brightest student in the college and completed his Chartered Accountant degree with distinction from ICAI. He was one of the members of the group who raised and handed over to the PM Relief Fund Rs 51 Lakhs for the victims of the Gujarat Earthquake in 2001. Narain Dass Gupta headed ICAI as Vice President and President for 2000-01 & 2001-02 respectively. He is a member of various parliamentary committees as a member of the Rajya Sabha.
