S. Jaishankar, Diplomat and current Minister of External Affairs was born in 1955 in New Delhi. His father Krishnaswamy Subrahmanyam was an Indian Civil Servant and his mother Sulochana Subrahmanyam was a homemaker. He was brought up in a Tamil family and has done his schooling in different states of India. He has a sister and two brothers, One is a popular Historian and the other is also a Civil Servant. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has done his graduation from St. Stephen’s College of Delhi University. He completed his M. Phil and PhD Degree From Jawaharlal Nehru University before joining the Indian Foreign Service.

Subrahmanyam Jaishankar joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1977. He served as the secretary of the Indian mission in the former Soviet Union for several years. Minister S. Jaishankar has vast experience in diplomatic relations with the United States as he worked as the secretary of the Indian Embassy in the United States for a long time. In his IFS career, he worked with different countries as a diplomat. He was the only ambassador who served almost four and half year term in China.
