Smt. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi is an Indian politician, poet, and journalist, who has served as the Member of Parliament (Lower House) from Thoothukkudi Lok Sabah Constituency since 2019. She defeated AIADMK Candidate R. Sivasamy Velumani with over margin of 392,738 votes. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi is a Member of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

She was born in Chennai on 5 January 1968 to the Karunanidhi family, which is an Indian political family who have had considerable influence in the politics and cinema of Tamil Nadu. Muthuvel Kanimozhi’s father Karunanidhi was an Indian writer and politician and served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for almost two decades over five terms between 1969 and 2011. She earned a Master in Economics degree at Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai. Kanimozhi is known for supporting pan-Tamil causes.
