Dr. D Ravi Kumar, Social Activist, Writer, and current member of the lower house of the parliament of India, was born in 1060 Manganampattu village of Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu. He completed his schooling in his hometown and moved out of his hometown to complete his higher education. He follows Ambedkar and the Buddhist religion. Shri D Ravi Kumar strongly opposes the caste system in India and always works for the upliftment of Dalit communities (backward classes).
He started his career as the editor of Nirapirikai magazine and founded his own publishing house Navayana. Navayana is specifically founded for anti-caste literature in Tamil Nadu. D Ravi Kumar has written many books in Tamil Language. His books became bestsellers in the trade. Dr. D Ravi Kumar was awarded by the Tamil Nadu government and other media societies for his writing and translation work. In 2001 he joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party. He first contested as a candidate of DMK from the Veluppuram constituency in the general election of 2019.
