Abhijit Gangopadhyay, former Judge of Calcutta High Court, Politician, and member of parliament was born in 1962 in Kolkata city. He finished his schooling at Mitra Institute, Kolkata. Gangopadhyay joined Hzra Law College and finished his law degree. In his college days, he was a member of a Bengali theatre group. He cleared the state Public Service Commission exam and joined the state civil service. Gangopadhyay resigned from his government job and started law practice in Kolkata High Court.
Shri Abhijit Gangopadhyay was promoted as the judge of Calcutta High Court in June 2018. Gongopadhyay’s career was very controversial as the judge of the high court. He faced a protest from the Bar Council of the high court for going against some politicians of the Trinamool Congress party in the WB School Service Commission scam in teacher recruitment. Once he was forced to apologize in front of Bar Council of the high court for his order against the lawyer of the court. He joined the BJP in 2024 and became the MP from Tamluk Constituency.
