Shri Jagadish Shettar or Jagadish Shivappa Shettar, Former Chief Minister of Karnataka State is currently serving as a member of the Parliament Belgaum Lok Sabha Constituency. He is one of the senior Leaders of the Bhartiya Janta Party in Karnataka State politics. He Joined the politics with the Bhartiya Jana Sangh party at an early age. Shettar was first contested in the State assembly election in 1994. Jagdish Shettar remained a member of the Legislative Assembly till 2023.

He was born into the Shivappa Shettar and Basavenamma families. His father was an active member of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh Party and served as the Mayor of Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation in 1975. Later, Jagdish Shettar joined the Bhartiya Janta party at a young age.

Jagadish left the BJP in 2022 and joined Indian National Congress Party. Congress appointed him as the leader of the opposition party in the Karnataka state assembly in 2022-23. He rejoined the BJP in 2024 and the BJP introduced him as the candidate of the Belgaum Lok Sabha constituency in the general election of 2024. He won the election by defeating Mrinal Ravindra Hebbalkar of INDIA Alliance by more than 1.5 lakh votes.
