Smt. Mala Roy, politician and member of the lower house of parliament of India was born in 1957 in Kolkata, West Bengal. She finished her schooling in the city and joined Vidhyasagar College for Women to complete her graduation. Mala Roy married Nirbed Ray. Her husband was in active politics and encouraged her to join politics. Mala Roy started her political career in 1995 after the nomination of ward no 88 as councilor.
