T R Baalu or Thalikkottai Rajuthevar Baalu, senior politician and current member of parliament was born in 1941 in Thalikottai village of Thiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu. His father Rajuthevar and his mother Vadivambal were agriculturists. Known as Baalu in his political career, T R Baalu completed his early schooling in his hometown and completed his B. Sc. Degree from Madras University. He also holds a Diploma in engineering in drafting. He was inclined towards politics from school time.
At a young age, he came near to Stalin who was a member of the youth brigade of DMK and the son of the president of the party and chief minister MK Karunanidhi. He and M. K. Stalin worked at ground level at a young age to uplift the support of the party. Baalu was first introduced as the candidate of Rajya Sabha by the DMK Party in 1996. In his political career, he represented Chennai South and Sriperumbudur constituency in the 7th term in 2024.
