V. Somanna, an Indian Politician of Karnataka state is currently serving as the Union Minister of Jala Shakti, Railways and member of the Lok Sabha, Lower house of the Parliament from Tumkur Lok Sabha constituency. He started his politics from ground level and became a member of Bangalore municipality in 1983. Later, he joined Janta Dal and contested from the Begumpet constituency of Lok Sabha and joined the state assembly.

Somanna never looked back on politics and continuously stayed active in politics, He was born in Doddamaralavadi Ramanagara in 1951 in the family of Veeranna and Kempamma. V. Somannawas brought up in the family by his mother and completed his schooling in the native town. He was graduated from Karnataka University. Somanna served on various cabinet ministries in the Karnataka state government in his political career.

V Somanna joined the Bhartiya Janta Party and the Party High Command included him in the nominees list for the 2024 general election from the Tumkur Lok Sabha seat. He served as the Cabinet Minister for Housing, Infrastructure, and Development in the Karnataka state government till 2023. Somanna is currently living in the parliamentarian’s house in New Delhi as the Union Minister.

V. Somanna is permanently living in Vijaya Nagar,  Bangalore City, Karnataka with his family. He was married to Gangadharaiah Shylaja in 1977 and has two sons Arun, and Naveen, and a daughter Divya. V. Somanna joined the Congress party in 2003 after resigning from Janata Dal. After the BJP government was formed in 2014 he left the Congress Party and joined Bhartiya Janta Party.
